    Description

Up for sale is a fantastic Celestial Map from 1705 Nicolas De Fer: L'Atlas Curieux ou le Monde. It is titled Planispheres Celeste Par Mr. de la Hire"  and was only included in some of the volumes making it quite scarce. It was engraved by Herman Van Loon. A very scarce double hemisphere Celestial Chart.  It is framed and remains uncolored. On back also included is a one sided one page description of the map presumably from the atlas.  Because of the scarcity of the map and this page in particular I can find no other examples of the description printed or mentioned but it is on period paper and almost certainly included with the map when it was published.
Overall map measures approximately 10 x 13 inches excluding the frame.  Including frame approximately 14 x 16 inches. It appears to be in generally nice condition. there is one large visible crease at left side of map that, if reframed, should be flattened. A couple other smaller creases and some light wear and soiling. Overall though no major issues are apparent with the map. It has not been examined outside of the frame.  Frame is professionally done but fairly old.  Some chipping to edges and small dings here and there.  Page from the atlas is in a  plastic sleeve on back in generally good condition with some wear and aging.
A fantastic, rare piece. Please email with questions and see my store for other great items.
